Bruges Part two

First of all, I’d like to say that today is Toby’s 30th birthday… Happy Birthday Toby!!!

So we started off today feeling great, the sun was shining, so we thought we’d go check out the waffles place we were going to go to yesterday. We arrived, and AGAIN they were closed. So we tried out another one I had read about online, and it TOO was closed. We figured out that because this is a very slow time for tourists, a lot of places close down for several weeks in January. Well, it turns out almost all the really good places are closed while we are here. But anyway, there was a place right across the walk way that was opening and advertising waffles, so we figured, let’s go! We have to try waffles in Belgium. I really wish we would have had a chance to read up on the reviews before we ate there. Word of advice, if you come to Bruges, do NOT eat at Carillon.

We sat and ordered coffee, which was okay, nothing special. I ordered waffles with nutella, and Toby ordered waffles with whipped cream. They look good, but alas they were not…

Afterwards, both of us ended up getting a bit sick actually, so I wrote a very specific and less than raving reviews on their restaurant. However, we still had a good day walking around.

The amazing chocolate place we tried to go to like three times, but was closed each time 😦

After walking around, we went up to the top of the Belfry. It is a tower that was built in 1240, but was rebuilt in 1280 after a large fire. Inside of the tower are bells which not only indicate the time, but also play music. This was started in the 1600’s. Many of the bells in the tower have been there since the 1700’s.

Then we walked around more…

some yummy belgium chocolates!

More Chocolates…

Then for dinner tonight we went out to Bierbrasserie Cambrinus, which was rated one of the best restaurants in Bruges on yelp.

And they actually had the Westveleran beer that we had to drive to the brewery to get, which SUPPOSEDLY you can’t get anywhere else.

Anyway, I’m off to have some tea… it’s 1:30 am, and we’re staying up to watch the KU v. KState game…
